Questions About IVF Ovulation & Fertility Treatments

Understanding ovulation and fertility treatments helps you make informed decisions. Here are answers to the most common questions our fertility specialists receive from patients trying to conceive.

IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) involves stimulating the ovaries, retrieving eggs, fertilising them in a lab, and transferring a healthy embryo into the uterus to achieve pregnancy.
Ovulation is when an ovary releases an egg. Pregnancy can only occur if ovulation happens, making it a critical step for natural conception and fertility treatments.
The fertile window includes the 4–5 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation itself. Intercourse during this period significantly increases the chances of conception.
Ovulation calculators provide estimates based on cycle length, while ovulation kits detect the LH surge. Both are helpful, but accuracy may reduce in irregular cycles or PCOS.
Irregular periods, absence of cervical mucus changes, inconsistent LH surge, or difficulty conceiving may indicate ovulatory dysfunction and require medical evaluation.
Ovulation induction uses medications to stimulate egg release in women who do not ovulate regularly, commonly used in PCOS or unexplained infertility before IUI or IVF.
If pregnancy does not occur after multiple ovulation induction or IUI cycles, or if there are additional factors like blocked tubes or severe male infertility, IVF may be advised.
IVF success depends on age, egg quality, sperm health, and uterine factors. Younger patients and those with early diagnosis generally have higher success rates.
IVF is usually well-tolerated. Procedures are minimally invasive and performed under sedation. Risks are low and carefully managed through monitored treatment protocols.
If you’ve been trying for over 12 months (or 6 months if over 35), have irregular periods, PCOS, or difficulty tracking ovulation, a fertility consultation is recommended.
